Common Alarm Products For Your Home Or Business

alarm products

Everyone wants their home to be as safe as possible. The same goes for anyone who owns a business. Protecting people and assets is important.

The National Institute of Justice defines property crime as a time when someone’s property is destroyed or stolen.

In 2018, 7.2 million property crimes were reported in the United States. But only 34% of property crimes committed are reported to the police. Many people feel there is not much the police can do about property crimes. But having a security system installed can make a difference.

Security Alarm Products

There are different types of security alarm products available for your home or business. The best ones are combination security systems, which means several products cover all parts of the building.

Security Cameras

Security cameras do not make an alarm sound when something is detected, but they are a critical part of the system. Having noticeable outdoor cameras can stop criminals from making your home or business a target on their list.

If someone decides to enter your property anyway, indoor cameras will show what they are doing. Many thefts go unsolved, and having the intruder on camera makes them easier to identify. It also helps to have a recording of what was taken for insurance claims.

Motion Detectors

Most motion detectors use ultrasonic sound waves or passive infrared to determine if a person or an animal is in the area. When movement is detected, your security system receives a notification. Some motion detectors will light up the area when triggered.

Motion detectors work well for monitoring possible intruders before they get close to the building. Many property owners use them inside or outside so they are alerted if someone is in a restricted area of their property.

Glass Break Detectors

Glass break detectors offer an added layer of protection for your home or business. Just as the name implies, a glass break detector will alert you if the glass in a door or window is broken.

There are two types of glass break detectors; shock and acoustic. Shock glass break detectors are attached to the glass of the window or door. If the glass is broken, the detector senses the vibrations and sends an alert.

Acoustic glass break detectors monitor the sound frequency of breaking glass. If they detect breaking glass, an alert is sent to the security system. With this style, small rooms only need one device to cover the entire area.

Most homes or businesses will only need to have glass break detectors on the first floor of the building.

Door and Window Transmitters

Door and window transmitters alert you to a monitored door or window opening. They are contact sensors. The device has two parts and they are installed with one part on the door or window and the other on the frame. When the door or window opens, sensor contact is broken, and an alarm will sound. Some transmitters can also alert the security system.

These devices may even be used on cupboards, desk drawers, or mailboxes to sound an alert when someone opens them who should not have access.

Safety Alarm Products

Safety alarms are also an important part of a home and business. The most commonly used products are fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. A personal panic transmitter can be a useful home tool as well.

Fire Alarms

Fire alarms and smoke detectors alert people that a fire has started in the building. When the alarm is triggered, it will make a loud sound, and some may have strobe lights that also go off.

If your fire alarm or security system is monitored, emergency personnel will be contacted right away. This can save lives. A monitored system can reduce property damage if no one is in the building to report the fire.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon monoxide is an odorless, tasteless, poisonous gas. It is produced by burning fuels, and a furnace or other gas-powered appliance can leak carbon monoxide. Without a carbon monoxide detector, you would never know there was a problem.

Personal Panic Transmitters

Personal panic transmitters are wearable devices. When the button is pressed, an alarm is triggered and help is soon on the way. These devices are a good option for older people with a high fall risk or anyone with a dangerous medical condition.

Security And Safety Alarm Products Are Important For Everyone

All buildings should have security and safety systems in place. There are several types of alarm products that help keep properties safe from crimes and safety issues. Using a combination of alarm products will cover all the bases.
